“Cape Hatteras Island” is a small barrier island off the coast of North Carolina that serves as a refuge for many sea birds and as a nesting site for marine mammals. The storm is expected to cause significant damage to some of the island’s buildings, and there is a possibility that the island may not return to normal even after Hurricane Gustav.
