Pope Francis has told the bishops’ body in Rome that they should prepare for the next stage of the church’s reform.
He told them that they should “prepare the way for a future of more justice and more love” at the general assembly of the U.N. General Assembly in New York next month.
“We’ve been talking a lot about justice, more justice. We’ve been talking a lot about love, more love,” Francis said Friday.
He said what’s happening now is a “movement of transformation” that must include a “renewal” of the church – something that Pope Benedict XVI said he agreed with.
Pope Francis, who is scheduled to visit Poland next week, said it would be wrong to have the next general assembly take place before the “renewal” of the church is complete.

Pope Francis, while visiting Poland, said Friday that the church, in the wake of the sex-abuse scandal involving church officials in the U.S., should prepare the way for a future of more justice and more love.“What we’re dealing with now is a movement of transformation. The journey to reform begins before the reform is completed,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a prayer meeting in Krakow.
