The boy says he doesn’t know how he’ll face the storm.

“I don’t know if I have a kayak or not. And I don’t know what I’m gonna do. It’s really scary,” says the 17-year-old.

The two young paddlers came upon a body this morning, face down in the water, just six kilometres from shore in a flooded neighborhood of St. Clair, Ont.

At first they thought the body was a deer, but then the man’s legs and arms came into view.

“I knew right away it was someone in the water. As I was turning around, my grandfather said ‘Don’t turn around. The body, it’s still in the water.’”

The boy says they were fortunate: the only two people alive in the neighborhood were in an upstairs room, trapped by the rising water.
